This tutorial needs you to understand basic use of 3dsmax.

Modeling Iron Man HeadAfter creating front of head in Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3, now we are ready to create back of the head. This, time we will use a sphere to help us creating back of the head easily. Sometimes, using primitives make our job easier, than cloning polygons one by one.

1. Create a sphere in Right viewport. Apply the same transparent material to the sphere. Make sure its center is in the middle of circle in blueprint behind.Use Radius and Segments like image below.

Image

2. Convert sphere into Editable Poly. Delete half of sphere. In Front viewport, select vertices at outer most area of sphere (look at image left). Use Make Planar Z to parallel their position. Next, de-activate all sub-object selection. Move sphere, make sure its X coordinate is the same with Symmetry axis from first object. Then, use Select and Non-Uniform tool to shorten sphere along horizontal axis.

3. Now, go to Polygon selection. Select polygons like image below and delete them.

4. In Right viewport, move vertices to match blueprint behind.

5. Using Cut, cutting in several places like image below..

6. In Top viewport, move vertices in sphere like image below. De-activate all sub-object selection. Now, select other object (face or Plane01). Go to Modify tab. Click Attach, then click sphere to combine those sphere into face object. Then go to Vertex selection, and use Weld or Target Weld to combine nearby vertices.

7. Use Create, to add polygons to fill the hole. After this, you need to move several vertices to adjust the head shape, especially in top area. Rotate in Perspective view to see how good is the head shape.

8. Next, we are going to close the bottom of the head. In Right viewport, select bottom like image below. In Top viewport, Shift+drag to the left. Use Make Planar X to flatten them. Move all edges exactly at Symmetry axis.

9. Using Connect, divide polygons like image below. Then use Weld or Target Weld to combine vertices. Use Create to fill the gap.

10. Iron man head is almost finished..
