This tutorial needs you to understand basic use of 3dsmax.

Modeling Apache Part 3In this Part 3 of Modeling Apache tutorial, you will create small wings and fix the tail. I don't know if small wings is appropriate term. But it is really like a small wings attached to the side of body.

16. Activate Polygon selection. Select two polygons on the side of body. Look at image below for reference. In Edit Polygons, use Inset to create small polygons inside.

17. Extrude polygons. Change selection to Vertex, and move vertices to get exact length similar to blueprint. Move vertices to make wing section like image below.

18. Now, we are going to fix the tail. Activate Edge selection. Select all cornered edges creating Apache tail. Then, in Edit Edges rollout use Chamfer to make the tail have smoother profile.

Image

19. Select polygons in the upper part of the tail, and give a liitle bit of Inset.

Image

20. Change selection to Edge again. Select single edge in upper part of the tail. Look at image below for reference. Then, in Edit Geometry rollout, change Constraints to Face. Move edge down. After you enable Constraints to Face, when you move edge, it will slide along face/polygon. This tool is useful when you want to move vertex or edge, but you don't want object shape change. When finished, turn Constraints back to None.

21. In right viewport, use Vertex or Edge selection to move upper part of the tail up.

Image

22. Now, for the end of the tail. Select one polygon, and extrude. Move vertices to scale its weight and height. Use blueprint image as reference..

Image

23. For rear wings, you can create them by simply copy from front wings. Select all polygons creating front wings. Using Select And Move Tool move them to the back while holding Shift. In Clone Part or Mesh window, you can use Clone to Element option. Move several vertices in Top viewport to match with blueprint image.

24. Simple adjustment needed for rear wings. Activate Border selection. Select border in the rear wing. Then, in Edit Borders click Cap button to fill hole with polygon.

25. Image below shows your Apache so far.
