1. First, download 3ds max file here. This zip file contains start and finished file. Open file "engraved_logo_start.max". In this file there are 5 lines. Look at image below. Select "Rectangle01". Right click and choose Convert>Convert to Editable Spline. Go to Modify tab. In Geometry rollout, click Attach Multi button. Select Line02 and Line03. Select Line04. Go to Modify tab. In Geometry rollout, click Attach button. Press H in keyboard and select Line05.
2. Now, you have only 3 objects. Select Rectangle01 object, and apply Extrude modifier. Use Amount=0. Also, apply Line04 with Extrude modifier also.
3. Select logo object (Line04). Apply Tesselate modifier. This modifier will divide object into smaller polygons. Use settings like image below. Note: Higher Iterations value creates more quality rendering later. But it requiires more computation resource. In this tutorial I use Iterations value=2. It is enough for this tutorial purpose. Why do we need to divide logo into smaller polygons? You'll find out later.
