Cool Spikey 3D AbstractIn this tutorial you will try to create another variant of 3D abstract. This time you will create some spikey objects like a ball of nails scattered all over the scene. Here you will use Scatter.

1.Create a box in Top viewport. Use dimension 40x40x500. Convert into Editable Poly. In Modify tab, activate Polygon selection. Select one polygon on top. Scale up to make it bigger. Then, use Bevel to make pyramid shape like image below. When finished, turn off Polygon selecton.

2. Make sure object is still selected. In Command Panel, choose Create>Geometry. Choose Compound Objects from drop down list. Click Scatter button. Scatter is used to create randomly cloned object.

In Scatter Objects rollout, set Distribution=Use Transform Only. In Source Objects Parameters create 50 duplicates.

In Transform rollout, enter rotation and scaling values like image below.

3. Next, let's texture the object. Open Material Editor (shortcut "M"). Click Get Material button. In Material/Map Browser, make sure Browse From: Mtl Library is chosen. Then double click Metal Dark Gold material. Apply the material to object. Make sure object is selected, and click Assign Material to Selection button.

In Anisotropic Basic Parameters, change both Diffuse and Specular color if you want. Reduce Specular Level to 0-50 to make the object less shiny.

Open Extended Parameters rollout, activate Additive. This will create nice effect for transparency.

4. Open Maps rollout. Reduce Reflection value to 30. And click None button right next to Opacity. In Material/Map Browser make sure Browse From: New is selected. Double click Falloff

5. Next, render. Image below shows render result with addition of some texts and graphic element in Photohop.
